A Look Back at Our 2023 Flowering Season at Utopia Clivias
The 2023 flowering season at Utopia Clivias built beautifully on the momentum of the previous year. With each season, we continue to refine our breeding program—and this year brought another wave of exciting progress, surprises, and standout blooms.
From the first buds to open to the last umbels of the season, 2023 was defined by a strong showing of form, colour, and plant vitality.
One of the season’s greatest highlights was the maturation of several second- and third-generation crosses. Many of these had been years in the making, and seeing them flower for the first time was both thrilling and validating.
A few new pink hybrids stood out in particular, hinting at even more refined forms to come. Some seedlings from our Star Green lines also made their debut, showing excellent promise.
As always, the season brought its share of surprises—some accidental crosses produced unexpected (and often stunning) results, reminding us of the magic and mystery that makes clivia breeding so rewarding. These happy accidents will now be watched closely as we evaluate their potential for future work.
Reflecting on the 2023 season, we’re filled with excitement and motivation. Each flowering cycle deepens our understanding of our lines and clarifies the direction forward. There’s a growing sense that many of our long-term goals are beginning to bear fruit—literally and figuratively.
