Shipping Policy – Seeds and Plants
Utopia Clivias offers international shipping of Clivia seeds to selected countries. Available destinations are indicated during checkout via the country selection menu.
The international shipment of live plants is subject to strict and varying import regulations. As such, all plant orders for export are handled on a case-by-case basis and will only be considered following prior written communication with Utopia Clivias.
Customers requesting plant shipments are solely responsible for ensuring compliance with all import requirements of their country. This includes, but is not limited to, providing full and accurate details of applicable regulations, permits, phytosanitary requirements, and any additional documentation required for lawful importation.
Utopia Clivias reserves the right to decline or cancel any plant order where compliance with the destination country’s regulations cannot be reasonably achieved or verified.
Shipping Schedule — South Africa Orders Only
Plants
Orders for plantsare shipped on Mondays only.
The cut-off time for placing orders is 12:00 PM (midday) on Saturdays.
Orders placed after this cut-off will be shipped the following Monday.
Clivia Seeds
Seeds are harvested in June and shipped from end of July to end of August of the same year.
You will receive an email notification once your seed order has been shipped.
It is the purchaser’s responsibility to track the parcel using the selected courier’s tracking service.

Refunds — Plants & Seeds
No refunds will be issued once an order has been placed, confirmed, and paid for.
Refunds will not be granted due to customer negligence in the care of seeds, seedlings, mature plants, or bulbs. It remains the responsibility of the purchaser to familiarise themselves with the proper care — all relevant information is available on our website.
We do not accept returns or refunds for:
- Change of mind or buyer’s remorse
- Conditions arising after delivery due to environmental factors, handling, or care
Approved claims will be handled in accordance with applicable law. Where permitted, we reserve the right to deduct all reasonable costs incurred, including but not limited to shipping, handling, and administrative fees.
Damages & Incorrect Orders
Inspect your order upon receipt.
Should there be any dissatisfaction regarding the condition of your plants (within reason) or if you receive an incorrect order, you must contact us within 24 hours.
Return Policy — 24 Hours Only
Customers have 24 hours from the time of delivery to notify us of any issues and request a return.
To be eligible, items must be in the same condition you received them and in original packaging.

Returns are only accepted after prior approval. Parcels returned without requesting a return will not be accepted.
Refund Process
Once the returned items are received and inspected, we will notify you regarding approval of the refund.
If approved, refunds will be processed to the original payment method.
Please allow several business days for processing and funds to reflect.
Courier & Shipping Disclaimer
Utopia Clivias does not accept responsibility for courier delays, mishaps, damages, or losses once the parcel leaves our premises.
All shipping risks remain with the purchaser.

Right to Cancel or Refuse Orders
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to cancel, refuse, or decline any order at any time, including after payment has been made, where reasonably justified.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Failure to select or pay the correct shipping fee at checkout
- Plants ordered may have become unavailable due to stock discrepancies or changes in plant health.
- Incomplete, inaccurate, or misleading order information
- Abusive, inappropriate, or unacceptable conduct toward our team via any form of communication
- A history of disputes, excessive complaints, or unreasonable conduct
- Returned, uncollected, or refused shipments
- Customers previously restricted or blacklisted due to prior misconduct or breach of our terms
Clivia Seed — International Terms & Conditions
A Phytosanitary Certificate option is available at checkout for applicable countries.
Documentation:
It is the buyers responsibility to ensure documentation for import of seeds into your country is allowed. Utopia Clivias and its owners take no responsibility for either rejected or items not allowed by your respective authorities.
USA Customers:
A Small Seed Lot Import Permit is mandatory.
You are responsible for arranging onward shipping from the inspection station to your home. Shipping fees only cover delivery to the inspection station.
You must state your Green & Yellow Label number at checkout.
Unforeseen import costs (customs, inspection, taxes) are the responsibility of the purchaser.
Risk Disclaimer:
Utopia Clivias does not accept liability for risks associated with shipping, including:
Parcels destroyed by officials or port authorities
Parcels lost in transit
Countries refusing entry of parcels such as seed etc.

All shipping risks remain the responsibility of the purchaser.
Live Plants, Seeds, Breeding and Packaging Risk
Due to the perishable and variable nature of live plants and seeds, all products are sold subject to inherent biological, environmental, genetic, and handling-related risk.
Packaging and Preparation:
All plants, seedlings, and bulbous plants are prepared and dispatched in a healthy condition, with established roots and/or bulbs.
For safe and compliant transport:
- All items are removed from soil and thoroughly cleaned prior to packing
- Plants are carefully packaged to protect roots, leaves, and bulbs during transit
- Bulbous plants may have leaves and roots trimmed to reduce stress and ensure safe shipping
Packaging methods are designed to minimise damage in transit; however, minor cosmetic changes due to handling and transport may occur and are considered normal.
General Risk Acknowledgement
By placing an order, the customer acknowledges and accepts that:
- Live plants may experience stress during transit, including but not limited to leaf yellowing, wilting, or minor cosmetic damage
- Seeds are natural products and, while selected and handled with care, germination cannot be guaranteed
- Growth, performance, flowering, and overall plant development are influenced by environmental conditions beyond our control, including temperature, humidity, light, handling, and cultivation practices
Breeding and Genetic Variability
- All breeding and genetic outcomes are variable and cannot be guaranteed
- Descriptions of parent plants, expected colours, forms, or traits are provided as guidance only and do not constitute a guarantee of outcome
- Variation within a batch or cross is normal and expected, including differences in colour, form, vigour, and quality
Limitation of Liability
All risk in the goods passes to the customer upon dispatch.
We do not accept liability for:
- Transit-related stress, delays, or courier-related issues once the parcel has been handed over
- Failure of seeds to germinate or perform as expected
- Variability in breeding outcomes or deviation from expected traits
- Plant decline, damage, or loss occurring after delivery due to environmental conditions, handling, or care
Any concerns must be reported within 24 hours of delivery and must be supported by clear photographic evidence. Claims submitted outside of this period will not be considered.
Clivia Pollination & Seed Harvest Policy
To ensure mature, high-quality seed with better germination rates, we harvest seeds in June.
Seeds are shipped from the end of July to end of August of the same year.
Though plants are isolated and hand-pollinated, outcomes of Clivia seeds or seedlings cannot be guaranteed.
Seeds are cleaned thoroughly and shipped mould and fungus-free.
